One of the most important military bases in the country, Dyess Air Force base has been an important part of America's strategy in the War on Terror. This 6,409 acre base is headquarters for over 13,000 military and civilian personnel.
Dyess is home to the 7th Bomb Wing, one of only two B-1B Lancer strategic bombardment wings in the Air Force. It is assigned to the Global Strike Command Eighth Air Force, providing combat-ready forces for strategic nuclear deterrence and global strike operations.
Dyess is a big part of the Abilene community, employing many local civilians, as well as contributing nearly $310 million annually to the local economy.
